Being happy
Oh yes, to be happy, wouldn't that be nice? Oh, but if I would have this and that already, I would be so much happier... This kind of sentences I continue to hear in my workshops and consultations. I am thinking back. Was I happy? No, not always. There was still so much that I needed, so that my world would be o.k. A larger seminar room, a consultation room……..yes there was so much more. Yes if I just had that…..do you know this kind of thinking? But life had other ideas waiting for me and definitely not a larger seminar room. It sent me on lecture tours, book writing and it gave me ample time to think in peace and quiet. Also about happiness! After some literature, self observation and after some interesting lectures I attended, it suddenly became clear to me: The meaning of life is to be happy. That is what is called a spiritual life. I tried once more to look at my life from a bird’s eye view. I looked at everything around me quite carefully. My friends, my home, my work. I saw that all these things gave me a lot of joy. That usually I never really appreciated all of the things I had because I was so busy wanting things I thought I did not have. Maybe you know that feeling from your holiday trips? You look at the beautiful beach, or the mountain, and your heart opens. You wish you had this view every day of your life. The people that live there most probably do not notice the beauty anymore, for them it is everyday life. Open your heart again for the beautiful things in your life that you have already. To experience happiness daily makes our life worth living. Working with energy teaches us that what we focus on will come into being. If we focus on being happy, it will grow and we are able to have many joyful moments in our life; that way we can share our happiness also with others. Happy people are feeling well and only happy people can make other people happy. So many clients complain about their not so “spiritual” partners. Partners that are not willing to entertain ideas about alternative healing methods, energy work, spiritual ideas and so on. Strangely these partners seem quite happy and appear more content. They are not constantly looking at obstacles and blockages in their lives that they must resolve first, before they can be happy. These (unspiritual) people go straight for what makes them happy and is fun for them.
So happiness can not be found outside of us, or within certain teachings. Happiness is within us and depends on our attitude and what we actually do to experience happiness and joy.
Also during times of hectic and stress we are able to feel happy. It only takes a few minutes, a few seconds to stop and look at the situation one is currently in. When one becomes the observer one can stop and ask oneself if there is a possibility to change the situation so that one can feel better about it NOW. That way we create a more conscious attitude towards the things and situations that are currently around us. When we are able to stop for a minute to actually think about what we are doing, we create an opportunity to become more self-aware. And you will find out that you actually know what you need to make you feel better. All happiness is within you; all you need to do is to learn how to look after yourself.
So what is that you can do for yourself right now?
Maybe you can listen to your favourite music whilst doing your chores right now, or make yourself a nice cup of tea. Also small things can change situations for the better. We just do not take the time to observe all the mundane things we are busy with in general to see if we can change them. The people developing new computer programs think constantly about ways how to make them easier and how using them can be even more fun. I would like to encourage you to have the same discerning look at your daily chores and see what you can change, cut out, or let go of. Ask yourself what serves you still. Make space for new things that make you happier. Discover your life, search for what makes you happy, even if it’s only a few minutes a day. Too often we are invested in visions and dreams about life and do not know if these dreams actually will make us truly happy.
Ask yourself again if you really do need what you think you must have right now to be happy?
Continue searching! I am able to find ever more happiness and joy in my life and now I am happy that my thoughts on how one can be more happy ahs led to this article. Maybe it will inspire a reader enough to search for more happiness in their life. If you want to know more about making yourself happy, I would like to recommend the book by
